(pronounced MOOM BOONIE) Mumbuni is a Phoenix, AZ band exploring new shoots in the roots - mixing reggae and world foundations meets neo-psych rock in a bar and they end up going home together .. expect pop informed world beat, neo-soul, space-funk, swagger-wave® rhythms into one groove-saturated sound. The name Mumbuni is Swahili and means “creator”, is both a place of personal roots as well as the source and origin of the band. Mumbuni began with every intention of attracting members who connected with the material and made it unquestionably better.

Our sound is shape-shifting and immersive. Tracks move between swaggering bounce and meditative ceremony, with soul-soaked guitar hooks, hypnotic bass lines, vibe soaked keyboards and synth textures, and moments of lo-fi beauty. At times, it is revealing and vulnerable; at others, it's playful, occasionally touching on darker topics or pulling Into sub-heavy trance states. Occasionally Swahili vocals, but sometimes beautiful tuned harmonies punctuated with dub effects and spacey guitar riffs merge seamlessly into a sound that’s both rooted and otherworldly.

As an Ethos, we reach for roots unity, community, service and charity, politics of attraction and shared desire to create art, share it playing live.
